The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Center specializes in the diagnosis and the
treatment of disorders of emotion, cognition and/or behavior affecting children
from infancy to age 21 years. The Center consists of a large teaching clinic in
which evaluation and treatment is conducted by Child Psychiatry Fellows under
the supervision of our
Faculty, some
of whom have distinct areas of special interest and expertise within the field
of child psychiatry.
Initially, a diagnostic evaluation is performed to assess a child's condition
with attention to its psychological, biological, social and environmental
components.
The next step is to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the child and
family, often integrating ongoing care with health, mental health, educational
and social service providers in the community. Child psychiatrists are prepared
to advocate for children and adolescents in each of these domains of care and
support.
We strive to maintain availability to evaluate and develop treatment plans for
children in the St. Louis Children’s Hospital system and in the networks of
insurers that support the provision of care in a University Hospital
environment. For children outside of these systems, we strive to assist
families to secure appropriate mental health care. For more information,
contact our Center or visit

Works.

HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS
The entire full-time faculty physicians of Washington University School of
Medicine participate in the health insurance plans listed
here. It is important to know that the availability of faculty child
psychiatrists to accept new patients varies over time and across providers. Our
staff is experienced in assisting families to identify alternate services of
care when openings for our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Center are limited.
In any case, it is important for you to check your own specific plan before you
make an appointment.
If you have questions about whether or not our providers participate in your
health insurance plan please feel free to contact our office.
